Licences

In the spirit of this site, which is to be a resource and place of knowledge for synthetic sound designers, almost all files found here have very liberal licences. You can do what you like, including mixing new material from them, using them in games and applications or whatever. To express my wishes I've used the mp3 tags to make it fairly clear what each file contains. If you have a question or want to tell me about a cool project your doing that uses some sounds you found here then please feel free to send me an email.

Puredata and Source Code

All Puredata files or source code ending with the file extension .pd or .c are published under GNU licence.

Audio Tracks

Most audio tracks on this site, which end in the file extension .mp3 are released under various Creative Commons licences. Please take note of the various rights granted on a per file basis given in the mp3 tags and kindly observe any restrictions.

All works tagged (cc) some rights reserved are non-derivative licenced and can be freely shared, copied and distributed, but should not be used as the basis for remixing or derivative works without permission ( I will almost certainly give you permission, please just drop me an email).

The following additional rights are granted for some works:

Audio examples and tutorial clips tagged Synthesis Examples or All Uses are CC type III licenced. They may be used in other works, including for profit/commercial productions without permission. This includes games, movies and internet radio production, or for remixing, or as the basis for other works. If the mp3 tag says "all uses", do what you like.

Exceptions:

Because of existing rights or rights I am not able to give there are a few exceptions. Please check them before using a piece of audio or code from this site and I will help you contact the owner if I can.

Works tagged (c) Sonic Lab or (c) Geezerz are from Sonic Lab Studios Ltd UK and are copyright Grant Buckerfield and Andy Farnell.
They may not be used in production or for broadcast without written permission from the author(s).

Works tagged (c) BBC or (c) NFP (not for production) are given as showreel examples of the authors work and retain the copyrights of their respective owners. They may be distributed only for promoting the author.

Tracks tagged (c) Kate Brown are copyright Kate Brown. They may be freely distributed for non-commercial personal listening but you should contact Kate Brown to enquire about other uses.

Text

All text on this website, particularly the works under Practical synthetic sound design are copyright Andy James Farnell and may not be republished except by explicit written permission. You may link to any of these works as you like.

Be aware that if you link sound effects into your myspace page instead of hosting your own files, they may change. Maybe into something you don't like.
